Camping at Lava Hot Springs

Father's Day weekend we headed down to Lava Hot Springs for our first camping trip of the summer.  We had a lot of fun.  Brayden pulled out his BB gun and we all took turns shooting cans.  It turned into a little competition, Brayden and Jaime always compete and have a lot of fun.

Our family always enjoys a little fishing we fished until it got too windy.
We spent an entire day at Lava Hot Springs we all had a great time.  It was still a little cool outside so good thing the pool was heated, since Max has no extra insulation on his body he got a little cold but had a wonderful time.  The kids made the climb up to the big slides several times--so much fun!  They are all thrill seekers and had fun going down the big slides.  We played basketball and had a good day at the pool.  After we went swimming we grabbed some burgers and headed back to camp, once it cooled off we headed back for a relaxing evening in the hot pots.  Good Day!

Chesterfield is an early Mormon settlement 11 miles north of Bancroft. Founded in 1881, it is now unoccupied, but history buffs won't let it go away. They formed a foundation to refurbish and maintain 27 original structures. It is astride the Oregon Trail and the architecture and scenery are worth the visit.

This is where some of the pioneers split off to take the Hudspeth Cutoff southwest to California while the Oregon Trail went northwest to Fort Hall. Later when the huge wagon train westward migration expired due to building of railroads, Mormon Pioneers pushed north from Salt Lake. They were looking for fertile farm ground with water. Their settlement was Chesterfield in 1879. Farming was good, families grew and prospered. Several homes a school, a church, and a general store were constructed.

After exploring the townsite of Chesterfield we ventured up for some fishing at Chesterfield Reservoir.  We fished with not a lot of luck.  All the boaters were commenting what a slow fishing day it was, then Brayden hooked a pretty good one we had it with dinner that evening it tasted really good!

Our last evening it was just our family, it started to rain a little so we decided to go once again to Lava and sit in the Hot Pots it was really nice as it was raining.  Fun first camping trip for 2011!
