Day 1

Our Journey to Southern California began Saturday afternoon as soon as Simple Saturday was over. We headed to Pleasant Grove to spend the night with my parents and visit with them. We were all really excited and could not wait to get on the road. When Grandma and Grandpa Murdoch headed to church we headed to Cedar City first stop on our California Adventure! We decided to stop at Cove Fort--Cove Fort was built as a way station for people traveling between the central Utah communities of Fillmore and Beaver--a 60 mile journey that usually took two days. The fort provided safety, shelter, fresh stream water, and plentiful livestock feed. The fort is built mostly of volcanic rock.
We had a wonderful visit with the missionaries from Idaho Falls, watched a fascinating film about Cove Fort, and felt it was a wonderful stop on our journey.....we headed back to the interstate - got on--then 2 minutes into our travels we came to complete stop for over 3 hours. We hit blizzard conditions and they closed the interstate, we were caught in between this closure. The kids were awesome! We watched movies, enjoyed the snacks Grandma Kathy had sent, and have never been more excited for the van to start moving. Our relaxing day in Cedar City was changed but we were glad to get there safely!
